   NOTICES

On Saturday, June 4, there will be a gala farewell party for Fr Gary London in Guild Hall from 1.00 to 5:00 PM.  Joe Lauer will prepare a yummy meal, and we will all socialize and play games (most likely Werewolf and Bingo).  $5 donations to the food/decorations/paper plate fund are requested for each person attending.  Please see Kelly Lauer, Sarah Thomas, or Kathy Eisel to sign up for the party!  Children are more than welcome, but formal childcare arrangements have not been made.

            Father Gary will attend this gathering, and it presents an excellent opportunity for individuals in the congregation to celebrate their relationship with him, to thank him for his influence, and to find out if he is one of the werewolves (attendees of our October gathering will understand this reference)!  Rather than a formal presentation from the church entire, this gathering is about enabling congregants to acknowledge their gratitude to Father Gary in an individual way.  We hope you are able to come.

            It's June, and we say goodbye to the choir after our musical tributes to the Rev. Gary London  in May.  During the summer months, there will be occasional soloists and small groups filling in.  And of course, choir members will be in the congregation all summer, because we never want our standards for congregational singing to fall under any circumstances!

            Periodically, we ask the congregation for help on a specific issue, and this month, it's photography.  Does anybody have some really good pictures of the church -- exteriors and interiors?  In this day and age, these are usually most helpful in PDF format, although we can also use prints.  In our bulletin board displays and in our publicity, I tend to use the same few pictures over and over.  I was just looking at some recently-discovered pictures from the St. Luke's archives, and you are always glad to have a record like that.

            The Vestry Meeting returns to its usual fourth-Sunday schedule, meeting in the Library on June 26 after the 10 AM Eucharist.

Changing of the Guards

            With Fr. Gary's departure, there will also be some changes in the Vestry.  Linda Cleary, our Senior Warden, has given her letter of resignation effective on 06/01/11.  We thank Linda for her many years of dedicated service as our Senior Warden, Linda will continue as an active member of Vestry and handling our financial reporting.  Lester Eisel, who was our Junior Warden,  has been appointed as the new Senior Warden.  As a result, the Vestry needed to elect a new Junior Warden.  The Vestry unanimously elected Kelly Lauer.  We thank Kelly in advance for taking on this new role and its responsibilities.

New school in Fall

            After almost 30 years, Carden of the Foothills will be ceasing operations.  Changes in the economy over the past few years has resulted in a significant decrease in enrollment.  Coupling this with the increase in expenses and operating costs, Carden of the Foothills is no longer able to continue operations.   When the school year ends in June, Carden and its staff will be packing up and saying goodbye.  But there is light for them as well, as they will be joining with another school in the area so they can share resources and expenses, allowing their students to continue the Carden of the Foothills legacy.

            Beginning in Fall 2011, Tzu Chi pre-school will be expanding and using our facility for 1st and 2nd grades.  Tzu Chi is very excited about their expansion and coming to enjoy our campus. They have been operating their pre-school on Palm Avenue for many years and saw this as the perfect opportunity and location for 1st and 2nd grades.  So you will see changes on the school grounds as the modular building is removed and the grounds beautified.

                                                                  TRANSITIONS

In the very near future, we will be embarking on a new chapter at St. Luke’s Monrovia.

After 17 years of nurturing and caring for us, our shepherd Father Gary London will begin his sabbatical and then be retiring at year’s end.

There will be changes.  Supply priests have already been scheduled throughout the remainder of the year, so there will be new faces.  Roles and responsibilities in the Vestry will be changing.  Committees will be set up to handle the many tasks and overall work involved in selecting our next rector.  If you would like to be actively involved in any portion of the search process, please let some one in the Vestry know.

One thing that will remain constant is our family here at St. Luke’s

As with any family in a time of change, it will bring us closer together.  There will be smiles, tears, and of course many questions as we move forward in our journey together.

The important thing is that we work together, keep the lines of communication open, and take cae of one anoher.

                                                A prayer to begin our search

            ST. DENYS' CHURCH

                        STANFORD IN THE VALE

Shepherd of souls, give us for the leadership of your church in this parish, a man or woman after your own  heart:

 A person of prayer, filled with the Spirit;

A person of vision, wisdom and sound judgment;

A person with a pastoral heart and a true love for people;

A person with a longing to see your kingdom come in the world.

Prepare the person of your choice for their ministry among us,

and prepare us for their coming; and overrule by your Spirit in everything for the doing of your will and the furtherance of Your glory;

                                              Through Jesus Christ our Lord,

                                                                  Amen
