Christmas and the New Year mark the beginning of a new children’s program at St. Luke’s.  This program fills an important need for both youngsters and their parents. It was originally announced in last month’s Mustard Seed, but is repeated here for those who may have missed it.  The Children’s Ministry Coordinator is Kacie Loren Cleghorn; let her tell you a little about it. . .

Hello!  My name is Kacie Loren Cleghorn.  I am happy to introduce myself as your newly appointed Children’s Ministry Coordinator.

I am a 19-year-old sophomore at Azusa Pacific University, where I’m a Psychology major working towards my Bachelors in Child and Family Development and my certification in Marriage and Family Therapy.  My goal is to be a therapist for children in difficult situations and families with deaf relatives.

I am very excited to be a part of your church’s family, and I can’t wait to see how our program and your children grow to be full of the love and glory of Christ.  Every week, there will be a full lesson for the children to be involved in and learn from.  Lessons will include coloring, drawing, verse memorization, and storyboards based on stories from the Bible such as Noah’s Ark and the Ten Commandments.  They will be strongly encouraged to take their lessons home and share with their parents what they learned that day.

If you are visiting the church or wish to learn more about the program, please feel free to come and sit in on a lesson and observe, as long as you participate!  Feel free to Contact me with any thoughts, advice, or questions.

My first day is this Christmas Eve, and I hope everyone is as excited as I am to start this new chapter in God’s plan for St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.  What better way to kick-start this new adventure than to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ!

Many thanks to all who helped with Evensong in Epiphany on January 16.  It was a beautiful service, and there were many favorable (not to say gushing) remarks from the congregation.  The next Evensong will be the Annual Women's Invitational in Lent on March 20.

The choir could use some help with the vestments.  At this point, we have plenty to go around, and we can even accommodate most guest singers.  But the sew-in labels are seriously outdated, and we need people to take a couple of the cassocks and surplices and sew in the new labels, which are printed on fabric.

Easter is unusually late this year; Lent doesn't even begin until March 9.  As a result, Epiphany has a whopping nine Sundays, and we will celebrate the season all through February.

Saint Luke’s is an inclusive church that welcomes everyone to be part of its community—_ a safe place for skeptics and doubters as well as convicted believers.  The communion meal of God’s presence among us is offered to anyone who comes with a sincere heart to receive it.
