We are very fortunate that the Right Reverend Mary Douglas Glasspool, Bishop Suffragan of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles, has rearranged her very complex schedule to be with us Sunday April 2, 2011.  Our Deanery is one of her many responsibilities, and she wants to get to know us first hand.  She will be at both the 8:00 a.m. and the 10:00 a.m. services.  ( A first, in my experience.)  Her graciousness will eliminate an important unknown.  Please welcome her and find the time to visit. It will be time well spent.

                                                                                        Yours in Christ,
                                                                                              Fr. Gary

The new children’s program at St. Luke’s, initiated at the first of the year under Children’s Ministry Coordinator Kacie Loren Cleghorn, is turning out to be a great success. The program shows every indication of growing as more parents find it not only allows them the freedom to attend worship services, but offers a worthwhile learning experience for the youngsters.

Please note that the monthly Vestry meeting, usually held on the fourth Sunday of the month, has been moved to Sunday, April 10, because of the Easter Services.  Also, there will be an Altar Guild meeting on Saturday. April 16th.

Dear Everyone

The service for Jack last Saturday was wonderful.  It was the result of a great team collaboration that helped to put it all together.  There was a lovely balance of prayer, spirituality, remembrance, celebration, music, flowers, poetry & anecdote.  We celebrated Holy Communion.  There were about 85 people in attendance, who represented a wide spectrum of family, friends, work & business colleagues, skiing friends, church friends & neighbours from Alder Lane. The second part of the service was the Committal of Jack's ashes into the consecrated, memorial garden at the Church.  The Navy presented the Military Honours including a ceremonially folded US flag presented to Lyn, & the beautiful playing of "Taps" which had everyone in tears!

After the Blessing and dismissal we had a reception in the church hall & a chance to reminisce about Jack's wonderful life, & to reconnect with family & friends.  Thank you all for your love, prayers, support & generosity in time, treasure & talents.

We continue our Lenten series of arias from Messiah through April 3 and are drawing from a vast repertoire of music appropriate for the season.  Schedules for Holy Week and Easter are posted around the church, and the choir will be delivering flyers with the schedule to Monrovia area hotels and care facilities.  We invite the congregation's input and participation in this project as we prepare for a joyful Easter.
