Clergy during the Search process:

Clergy during the Search process:

As previously noted, supply priests are scheduled through the remainder of the year. Beginning in Jan 2012, we will have an interim priest appointed through the Diocese. The Rector Search process will be going on while we are using supply priests and even through our interim priest. Once the entire search process has been completed, a Rector will be "called" and St. Luke's will have our Rector. The supply and interim priests are not specifically candidates; they are serving and worshiping with us while we go through our search process.

Our Supply priest for the remainder of 2011 (9/4 - 12/25) will be the Rev. Colville Smythe

Search Process Update:

Though there are some possible variations to this overall process, the MOST important element of this process is and always will be the Parish Profile. This is where the congregation can contribute individually and participate in the selection of our next Rector. We will be hoping for 100% participation.

The Parish Survey has been completed and distributed to the membership, due to the herculean efforts of Kelly Lauer, with assistance from other members of the Profile Committee.  Many surveys have been returned and we hope to receive the rest shortly.  The information will be collated and an overall Parish Profile will be assembled, which will serve as a guide in preparing a search for a new rector.

Participation is always welcome and encouraged

All of our groups in the church rely on participation from our parishioners. In addition to our existing groups, we will be setting up more groups as we move through this transition. Please consider volunteering for one or more of these groups. You'll enrich your experience with St. Luke's, have fun and be providing much needed support to our parish family.

Below is a list of our existing groups and who to contact for more details.

v  Ushers - Steve Waltmeir

v  Pastoral Outreach - Jeannett Armstrong and Trish Gresham

v  Altar Guild - Jeannett Armstrong

v  Welcome Table/Coffee hour - Sarah Thomas

v  SLUGS (St. Luke's Unorthodox Gatherings) - Parish activities and events

o   Kelly Lauer, Sarah Thomas and Kathy Eisel

v  Lunch Bunch - Lyn Walsh

The Lunch Bunch:

The Lunch Bunch will meet on Saturday, 17th DECEMBER at 11:30 in Guild Hall.  Lyn Walsh will be presenting Part 1 of her amazing trip to India, Bhutan, Nepal & Tibet & sharing some of her adventures in a fascinating, remote part of the world.  And yes, she does have pictures of Mt. Everest!   So please bring a tasty dish to share with this caring group.  All are welcome.

                                                                                                 Thanks, Lyn Walsh

The new church year starts with the first Sunday of Advent on November 27.  The service music and the psalms on Sunday mornings will be sung in plainsong, and the hymns and anthems will follow the themes of Advent as we prepare for the birth of Christ.  Good Episcopalians that we are, we do not sing Christmas music until Christmas.  And there is so much beautiful and meaningful Advent music out there that it is hard to pick only four weeks’ worth.

Our own Lyn Walsh resumes the sale of her very popular jams, marmalades, and chutneys each Sunday after church through December 18.  Sales of these goodies benefit the music program at St. Luke's.  You will also be able to buy CDs by the St. Luke's Choir in past years and the CD of hymns and spirituals recorded by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Trombones at St. Luke's in 2009.

Once again, the choir will be distributing flyers at area hotels describing the Christmastide services at St. Luke's.  If you have ideas for possible sites or would like to help with this, please contact any choir member.  We know this program is working when we see so many faces for the first time on Christmas Eve.
