Clergy during the Search process:
Clergy during the Search process:
As noted in the May Mustard Seed, supply priests are scheduled through the remainder of the year. Beginning in Jan 2012, we will have an interim priest appointed through the Diocese. The Rector Search process will be going on while we are using supply priests and even through our interim priest. Once the entire search process has been completed, a Rector will be "called" and St. Luke's will have our Rector. The supply and interim priests are not specifically candidates; they are serving and worshiping with us while we go through our search process.
The Supply priest for the remainder of 2011 (9/4 - 12/25) will be the Rev. Colville Smythe

Search Process Update:
Though there are some possible variations to this overall process, the MOST important element of this process is and always will be the Parish Profile. This is where the congregation is able to contribute individually and participate in the selection of our next Rector. We will be hoping for 100% participation.
Profile Process Update:
The Parish Survey has been completed and distributed to the membership, due to the heruclean efforts of Kelly Lauer, with assistance from other members of the Profile Committee. Many surveys have been returned and we expect to receive the rest shortly. The information will be collated and an overall Parish Profile will be assembled, which will serve as a guide in preparing a search for a new rector.

The Lunch Bunch will meet on Saturday, 19th November at 11:30 in Guild Hall. Lyn Walsh will be presenting Part 1 of her amazing trip to India, Bhutan, Nepal & Tibet & sharing some of her adventures in a fascinating, remote part of the world. And yes, she does have pictures of Mt. Everest! So please bring a tasty dish to share with this caring group. All are welcome.

Stewardship Reminder
The official ingathering of pledge cards was on Oct 30th. Many thanks to those who have turned their 2012 pledge cards. If for some reason you have forgotten to turn yours in, please do so as soon as possible so the Vestry can begin the task of setting up our budget for 2012.
People often ask, what is stewardship? At its most basic, it is how we care for the gifts we have received from God. It is the wise and faithful use of our resources – our time, talents, and treasure – all of which we believe were given us by God. Stewardship is about community and how we function together. It is a personal thanksgiving to God for all of the gifts that God has given us. While emphasizing once more the importance of the use of our time and talents during this fall stewardship effort, our primary focus will be on the commitment to financially support God’s work at St. Luke’s through pledging.
Your pledge to St. Luke’s allows the Vestry to make plans and allocate funds for the support and strengthening of the ministries, missions, and outreach efforts of the church. It aids in the preparation of a master plan or budget for the coming year. The budget will weigh heavily on the Vestry’s decisions both in calling our next Rector and in maintaining our existing programs.

The Vestry wants YOU!!!
There will be 4 vacancies for Vestry in 2012 !!! Yes, we have 4 people whose 3 year term ends in 2012 and those vacancies will need to be filled. The election will be held during our Annual Meeting. This will be a very exciting period of time in St. Luke’s history and you can be part of it!!
If you would like to run for one of these openings, it is simple. You must be at least 18 years of age and a member in good standing with St. Luke’s. Submit a brief bio telling us about yourself, both professional and personal. If you need a writing example, let us know and we can either email it to you or give you a copy at church. A sample could also be found in last year’s Annual Meeting booklet from last years nominees.

Many thanks to the many people who did so much for the Eighth Annual Men's Evensong Invitational. I am still hearing glowing remarks from the congregation. I was especially pleased to involve two other parishes for the first time and to bring another parish back. And for the only church I know of that practices Salvation through Marmalade, I am pleased to report that many people took advantage of Lyn Walsh's sales of her famous jams, chutneys, and marmalades, which are the main source of the choir’s fundraising. Lyn will be setting up her table again on the Sunday before Thanksgiving and will continue through Advent.
Speaking of Advent -- those clouds descending will be here sooner than you think. The First Sunday in Advent falls during Thanksgiving weekend. The service music changes, and the choir switches to plainchant for the psalms. And there is so much beautiful music out there for Advent that sometimes it seems a shame that there are only four Sundays.
